2013 - Laura Free (Class of 2005)

Laura volunteered with International Justice Mission in Chiang Mai, Thailand as a prosecutor in child abuse cases in Chiang Mai.

Laura graduated from William Clarke College in 2005, enrolling at Sydney University to study a Bachelor of International Studies with a combined Law degree. In 2008 she completed one semester at Liden University, The Netherlands, focusing her studies on political science, international law and trade.

When Laura graduated in 2011, she spent 16 months working with a Supreme Court Judge as his Tipstaff, providing excellent assist to the judge. In June 2012, Laura worked for a year as a volunteer lawyer with the faith-based organisation, International Justice Mission in Chiang Mai Thailand and was the only western lawyer in her office. Together with her team, Laura built cases to prosecute child abusers and worked to prevent further abuse by providing a disincentive for those abusers. Laura also undertook an intensive Thai language course to assist her in her role.

When Laura returned to Australia, she worked at Victoria Legal Aid providing legal representation to those who otherwise would not have access to it, giving the disadvantaged a voice and an opportunity for justice.

Laura is passionate about her work and has a strong desire to make a difference in the world, using the passion and talents that God has given her for His Glory and for the benefit of others.

Laura has fond memories of William Clarke College and says that GLO helped her to understand that Christian service should be a priority in her life and future endeavours. First and foremost, it encouraged her Christian faith and the values she holds today.
